Yolanda Martinez-Ley is the first Court Certified Interpreter by the Alaska Court System. She is also the first Certified Medical Interpreter, CMI-Spanish, in the State of Alaska. Yolanda is an Independent Contractor, currently working as a freelance interpreter and translator. She also collaborates with the Alaska Court System and the Language Interpreter Center (LIC) in training new interpreters.


Yolanda holds a major in Accounting, and a minor in Journalism, from the National Institute of Economics "Karl Marx", in Sophia, Bulgaria; a Diploma in Arts and Science, from Langara College, and a Bachelor of Science in Cellular Biology and Genetics from UBC, in Canada. She completed a year of Nursing studies, and many other courses in the medical field, as well as "Bridging the Gap" medical interpreting training.


As a speaker, she presented a workshop on "Financial Planning and Tax Preparation for Independent Contractors", at the 2013 IMIA Conference. In 2011, invited by the Alaska Court System, she participated in the Consortium for Language Access in the Courts' Workshops.


Yolanda devotes part of her time to performing pro-bono work, collaborating with numerous non-profit organizations.
